Ngorongoro Conservation Area Authority.

Ngorongoro Conservation Area Authority Arusha was established in 1959 as a multiple land use designated to promote the conservation of natural resource and safeguard the interests of the indigenous resident as well as promoting tourism. This is a unique protected area in the whole of Africa since the conservation of natural resources are integrating with human development.

The main features in this area is the Northern highland forest reserve known as ‘Entim Olturot’ in Maa language, The Ngorongoro Crater, the endless plains that bordered Southern Serengeti  supporting about 2.0 million migratory wildlife species of the Serengeti Mara-ecosystem. Other features are the water catchment forest, the archaeological site at Oldupai Gorge as well as the early human foot prints at Alaitole in Ngarusi area. The above features enabled the area to be accorded the status of a World Heritage Site and listed as one of the International Biosphere Reserve by the UNESCO’s Man and Biosphere Reserve Programs.

The multiple land use philosophy practiced in the area is to maintain the peaceful co-existence of human and wildlife in natural and traditional setting. Pastoralism, conservation of natural resources and tourism are the three main components that are given equal consideration in policy shaping decisions. The Ngorongoro Conservation Area Authority aims for the historic balance of people and nature in a way which has not been possible in many parts of the world. We offer both camping safaris and lodge safaris that includes NCAA. A walking safaris at the Northern Crater Rim of Ngorongoro guided by an armed ranger is among the popular tour in the area.
